This 11-day safari has been planned to cater for those interested in bird watching, gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking, primate watch safaris and game viewing. It will take you to the best National parks in Uganda including: Murchison Falls National Park for wildlife viewing, Bwindi impenetrable Forest national Park for gorilla tracking, Kibale forest park for Chimpanzee habituation and chimpanzee tracking safari in Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National. Day 1: Arrival & Kampala Tour
On arrival at the Entebbe Airport your will be received by your guide who will transfer you to the booked hotel and later an afternoon tour of the Capital city with sites like the Uganda Museum, Bahai temple, National Theatre, Kasubi tombs and the Uganda martyrs shrine as well as night life.
Day 2: The Murchison Falls Wildlife Tour
Following breakfast, leave for Murchison Falls national park for game viewing and photography, visit the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track the uncommon rhinos before your lunch break in Masindi. Finally reach Murchison Falls national park which is the largest protected wildlife area in the whole of Uganda covering 3,840 square kilometers. Check in to the accommodation and relax by the scenic River Nile.
Day 3: The Nile boat cruise safari at Murchison Falls
Following an early breakfast, have a game drive within the Northern area of the park looking for elephants, Uganda kobs, giraffes, lions, waterbucks, hippos and buffalos, plus a diversity of bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch and later enjoy a boat cruise in the afternoon to the bottom of the falls to see a diversity of wildlife on the river banks drinking water. You will see various antelope species, crocodiles, waterbucks, hippos, elephants plus buffaloes among many others in addition to a diversity of water bird species that make this a renowned birding paradise. The waterfalls display a natural beauty unmatched to no other place in the whole world. The 7-meter gorge together with a 43m drop of these falls results into a thunderous roar and a gorgeous rainbow in a cloud of water spray.
Day 4: Transfer to the Queen Elizabeth National Park
Following breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth through the Albertine Escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Reach Fort Portal found at the bottom of Mountain Rwenzori park, commonly known as the ‘Mountains of the Moon’ where you will enjoy before driving on to Queen Elizabeth national park with game viewing along the way up to the Mweya peninsula.
Day 5:Queen Elizabeth game drive and Kazinga Channel boat cruise
After an early tea /coffee leave for a game drive along the Kasenyi track, Kagutta track and the Queen’s Mile in search for lions, warthogs, elephants, antelope species, buffaloes, hippos and waterbucks. The Kasenyi game Track is among the best game viewing places in Queen Elizabeth National Park and also a wonder bird watching destination. In The savannah grassland you will see a large concentration of White & Abdim’s Storks during the season, and less concentration of Wooly-necked plus the impressive Saddle-billed Stork. In addition, you will see large numbers of Raptors including the Brown Snake Eagle plus the Grey kestrel. The predators’ kills attract close to 6 vulture species including the huge Lappet- faced Egyptian as well as Rupell’s Griffon. Also in the short grasses the common species include Senegal and African Wattled Plovers.
Enjoy a 2-hour afternoon boat-cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This channel is a natural attraction for water birds while the Mweya peninsula serves as a migrant trap for Albertine Rift Endemics. On the banks of the channel you will spot bird species like the Great White & Pink-backed Pelicans, the African Open Billed Stork, the Black Crake, Yellow-backed Weaver, the Great & Long-tailed Cormorants, the Common Squacco Heron, Malachite, the White-faced Whistling as well as Knob billed Ducks, Yellow-backed Weaver, the African Fish Eagle, Spur-winged & African Wattled Plovers, Water Thick Knee, Swamp Flycatcher as well as the African Jacana.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking safari in Kyambura Gorge
Following breakfast drive to Kyambura Gorge to track chimpanzees. This 16 km and 100m deep gorge is along the Rift Valley. You will be provided with walking sticks by the game rangers following a briefing about the activity and then off you will go into the forested Kyambura Gorge to track chimpanzees. At the end of the chimpanzee tracking tour in Queen Elizabeth park, you will head to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park through the Ishasha area f Queen Elizabeth National Park looking for the tree climbing lions. Have lunch in Ishasha arriving Bwindi forest in the evening.
Day 7: The Mountain Gorillas Trekking tour
After a hefty breakfast, go to the Buhoma Park Headquarters where you will be briefed by the park rangers prior to starting the gorilla trekking activity.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is home too close to 330 gorillas, which is approximately half of the total mountain gorilla population in the world. Gorilla tracking in Bwindi is divided into 4 sections i.e. Buhoma area, Ruhija area, Rushaga area and Nkuringo area. Booking gorilla permits for a specific area depends on availability. Gorilla tracking is a special activity that highlights the best tourist activity in the whole of Uganda. you will spend an hour observing the gorillas whose playful as well as interactive mood is well-worth the money! At the end of the primates’ trek head back to the lodge for lunch. Later, drive to Kabale through the beautiful terrain commonly known as “The Switzerland of Africa” because of the beautiful hills and valleys.
Day 8: The Lake Bunyonyi Tour
Visit the ultimate birding destination at Lake Bunyonyi. On arrival you will check in at your choice of accommodation. Have a boat cruise to the beautiful Islands on this lake as you enjoy the abundant bird life here. It is for this reason that this lake is referred to as ‘Bunyonyi’ a local word for the outstandingly big number of birds here. You may have some cultural entertainment by the Bakiga including dances. Enjoy a community walk to accustom yourself with the local culture and practices of the native Bakiga – Banyangezi people. This community is very friendly with great hospitality. You may purchase some handicrafts which are actually locally made by the residents of this area.
Day 9: Lake Mburo National Park
We start our journey to Lake Mburo National park heading East through Mbarara town known as “the land of Milk and Honey” You will have lunch in this beautiful town of Mbarara. From here you will head to Lake Mburo Uganda’s small picturesque safari park famous for its Zebras and herds of antelopes. Check in at your lodge then a boat cruise to the eastern bank of the park in the afternoon. While this cruise, expect to see huge crocodile sun bathing, hippos swimming, birdwatching, as well as other wild animal like Impala, Buffaloes, Elands and Zebras. Return to your lodge for dinner.
Day 10: Morning game safari / Travel back to Kampala.
Start off with breakfast then a game drive before your journey back to Kampala. While the game drive you will encounter a number of bird species, Impalas, Elands, buffalo, zebras and many more. After lunch travel to Kampala with a stopover at the equator for pictures and craft shopping. Arriving Kampala in the evening.
Day 11: Queen Elizabeth game drive and Kazinga Channel boat cruise
End your safari with a relaxing day in Entebbe visiting sites like the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (Zoo), Entebbe Snake Park, as well as the beach resorts to enjoy the sunset on Lake Victoria as the day winds down.
